I cast these canisters in house in small batches from simple yet strong concrete – one of the most basic of building materials. The small imperfections and inconsistencies of the handmade concrete are what make them unique and interesting. I heat and hammer each steel top to create a deep texture and forge and machine the knobs individually. The rich surfaces of the forged steel and cast concrete play off of one another nicely. I seal the concrete with a sealer used for concrete countertops, the lids are sealed with wax.
